Twitch

Two things to do

1. Turn on Store past broadcasts. In Twitch, open your Creator Dashboard -> Settings -> Stream, and turn on Store past broadcasts. A stream you did not keep leaves nothing behind for us to read, and it cannot be turned on afterwards, so do this before the stream you want counted rather than after.
2. Sign in through Twitch. In Toiling Away, open Connections -> add Twitch streaming, and use the Connect Twitch button. You type your password on Twitch's own page; we never see it.

There is no box to type a channel name into, for the same reason there is none for a Steam ID. A channel name is a claim, and a public one at that: anybody could name yours and earn from the hours you spent live. Signing in is what makes the channel yours rather than merely named by you.

What counts

Broadcasts, once they have ended. We read the recording Twitch kept of a stream you have finished, which is why nothing appears while you are still live and why a long stream arrives all at once when you stop.

Uploads and highlights do not count. Neither is time spent broadcasting, and a highlight is a piece cut out of a stream you have already been paid for.

An all-day stream counts in full. Other sources have a four hour ceiling per entry, because a timer left running overnight is usually a mistake; a fourteen hour broadcast is not a mistake, so it is counted as the several long stretches it was.

What you get to begin with

Whatever recordings Twitch still holds, going back a month at most. Twitch keeps them for a fortnight, or sixty days for Partners and Turbo subscribers, and we credit no further back than a month whatever it offers. So a new connection starts with your recent streaming rather than your career.

Unlike Steam, none of it is estimated. Each recording carries the time it started and how long it ran, so what you are credited is what happened, on the days it happened.

Worth knowing

Overlaps are merged. An hour that Twitch and another source both cover counts once. Streaming with a work timer running does not earn twice.

Your viewers' time is theirs. We count the hours you spent broadcasting and nothing about who watched. Watch time is your audience's time, not yours to earn from.

Disconnecting in Twitch stops it. Remove Toiling Away under Connections in your Twitch settings and the next check finds the door shut and says so. Toil already earned stays.

Twitch is asked about your finished broadcasts on a schedule rather than the moment you stop, so give it a while before wondering where a stream went.
