What we each agree to

The short version

Toiling Away turns time you have already recorded into a habitat you tend. Using it means agreeing to what is on this page. If you do not agree, do not make an account, and delete the one you have.

What we do with your data is a separate page, and it is the more useful one:Privacy.

Your account

Give a real email address, because confirming it and resetting a password both go through it, and an account on an address you cannot open cannot be recovered. Keep your password to yourself. Anything done from your account is treated as done by you.

One account per person. If you are under 16, ask a parent or guardian before you make one.

It is free

There is nothing to pay and nothing to cancel. If that ever changes, it changes for new things rather than for what you have already grown, and you will hear about it before it happens.

Count real time

The whole point is that the habitat grew from work you actually did. Do not script the ping URL to report time nobody spent, do not enter hours by hand that did not happen, and do not connect a source you are inflating. Referral credit is for people you actually brought, not for accounts you made yourself.

We can correct a balance that was credited in error or by cheating, including removing what it bought.

Sources you connect

Clockify, Toggl Track, Toggl 2.0, WakaTime, Harvest, Steam and Twitch each have their own terms with you, and connecting them here does not change those. Only connect an account you are entitled to use, and only use an API key that is yours to give. If a source changes its API or cuts off access, that connection stops working, and there is nothing we can do about it from this end.

You can disconnect a source whenever you like. Time already credited stays credited.

Toil is not money

Toil, the animals and everything else in a habitat exist inside the app. They are not currency, not property, and not worth anything outside it. They cannot be bought, sold, transferred between accounts or cashed out, and nothing here can be exchanged for money.

What you share

Your display name and the names you give your habitats are yours, and you keep them. Sharing a habitat link, or listing one publicly, gives us permission to show those names and that habitat to whoever opens it, which is the only reason we would show them at all.

Keep names free of anything abusive, deceptive, or that belongs to somebody else. We can take a habitat off the public page, or ask you to change a name, and taking a habitat off that page does nothing to the habitat itself.

Leave the service alone

Do not try to break in, read other people's data, hammer the API, or interfere with anyone else's use of it. Do not resell access or run the service on someone else's behalf as a product of your own.

It may break

This is a small service run by one person. There is no uptime promise. Features can change or be withdrawn, sources can stop being supported, and the whole thing could be shut down. If it is ever shut down deliberately, you will get notice and a chance to look at your habitats first.

Backups exist and are not a guarantee. Nothing here is a place to keep the only copy of anything you care about.

Ending it

You can delete your account in the app at any time, andPrivacysays exactly what that removes.

We can suspend or close an account that is faking time, abusing the service, or putting other people at risk. We will say why first where that is practical, and it is not practical when saying so would just let the behaviour carry on.

Where we stand

Toiling Away is provided as it is, without any promise that it will be uninterrupted, accurate or fit for a particular purpose. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from using it or from being unable to use it, including lost data or lost time records.

Nothing here removes rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot be excluded by agreement. Where a guarantee applies and cannot be excluded, our liability is limited to supplying the service again.

Changes and law

These terms can change. The date at the top is when they last did, and a change that matters will be said plainly rather than left to be discovered. Carrying on with the service after a change means accepting it.

These terms are governed by the law of South Australia, Australia, and the courts there.
