Without a tracker

Logging hours by hand

Not everything worth counting is being watched by something. An afternoon on a neighbour's fence, a morning reading a specification, a day nobody billed. You can simply say so.

New here? Toiling Away turns recorded time into animals that live in a habitat of your own.

How

Open Log time in the app, type a number of hours and submit. Quarter of an hour at a time, up to twenty-four in one go. There is nothing to set up first and no connection to add; it is always available.

Hours count as the ones just gone: submitting three counts the three hours ending now. That keeps it honest about when, which is what everything else here is built on, and it is why hours you did last Tuesday cannot be added retrospectively.

It will not count an hour twice, and it will tell you

If a tracker already recorded some of the time you are claiming, the overlap earns nothing: one real hour is one hour's toil no matter how many sources mention it. So logging five hours over an afternoon Clockify already knows about earns you nothing at all, and it says so rather than appearing to work.

When only part of it overlaps you are told how much was discounted and why. It is not a punishment for double-entry, just arithmetic: the day is only so long.

An hour is ten toil, the same as everywhere else.

A note on the honour system

Nothing checks that you did the work. You could sit and log twenty-four hours a day, and the only person you would be fooling would be yourself. A habitat is worth something to look at precisely because it is a record of time you actually spent; the caps are there to keep an accident or a runaway script from wrecking that, not to catch you out.
